Munna Cleland is an enthusiastic folk herbalist who studied at Living Earth School of Herbalism in Maple, ON. She practices Traditional Western Herbalism, using the Four Elements method developed by instructor, and well renowned herbalist, Michael Vertolli (B.Sc., R.H.) She also loves to work with simple folk remedies and herbal care products.
''I've always been called to healing, I felt it calling me when I was young and considered many healing professions over the years.''
Before discovering herbalism and making it her life's passion, Munna considered psychology, massage and several other therapies as possible career choices. However, when she got the call to become an herbalist she knew it was the right path. Herbalism combined her strong desire to heal and her deep love and respect of nature - it was the perfect fit. She immediately began her journey through self education and then pursued formal training upon discovering Living Earth School of Herbalism.
''I feel so blessed to have discovered Living Earth School. It all happened at the right time and I am so grateful. I was able to study with an incredible group of women who are all talented and unique healers. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.''
After her time at Living Earth, Munna became interested in expanding her knowledge on the treatment of womyn and children. In 2012 she joined the Herbal Medicine for Women program offered by amazing herbalist, midwife, and MD, Aviva Romm. This program is an indepth exploration of herbal medicine for womyn through every stage of life and has the added benefit of a lifetime membership in an supportive and diverse community of womyn who have also undergone this program.

Munna is currently residing on some beautiful land in rural New Brunswick. Here she spends her time raising her young son, farming and practicing permaculture, building and exploring community, vending at local markets, facilitating herbal workshops, collecting herbs and concocting herbal remedies! She also spends time in Toronto and surrounding southwestern Ontario where she grew up and still has many family and friends. There Munna tries to bring health and information to those in a more hectic urban lifestyle. She believes balance is key to finding much happiness in life and these opposite living arrangements provide ample opportunity for such.
Creation is big in Munna's life. She has been crafting for her business, Makeable Munna, for many years now. She loves to create through any medium, but especially loves to crochet. In the winter time, if not outside enjoying the slumbering nature around her, Munna is likely to be found with a steaming mug of tea by her side and a crochet hook in hand! (Or potentially a book in hand and wrapped in one of her beautifully handmade afghans with a cat on her lap!) This winter, in her few quiet moments alone, Munna is undertaking learning to spin her own yarn with a drop spindle.
"It's all about following yer bliss! Manifesting the things that will make you happy by focusing on the things you want and working toward them one breath at a time! I work with what I love and what calls to my spirit and Great Mystery supports me because I am serving myself and the greater good. Do what you LOVE! Create, grow, learn, LOVE!!!!"
Munna also teaches yoga on a pay what you can basis through her local community centre. She has been practicing yoga personally for many years now and is excited to be delving deeper into it. Continually learning and engaging in new things is one of her core traits and while she is fully dedicated to herbalism, she is also thoroughly excited to continue on her journey to create a harmonious relationship between many healing practices. She hopes to one day soon open a healing and learning centre on her land in NB.
Munna's most recent passion involves her new product line for pregnancy and postpartum. Since her own pregnancy in 2013 and the unassisted home birth of her bright little Bean in 2014, Munna has been enthralled with the use of herbs for this magical time of life. A lot of her interest is going to this right now, and we're excited to see where it will take Munna and Radicle Root Herbs over the next few years!
''I want to be able to offer a wide range of healing services to my clients. From herbalism, nutrition/lifestyle counseling, and flower remedies, to yoga, meditation, organic growing, and beyond. I let myself flow to wherever my healing spirit takes me. I've always been called to be constantly learning and believe it's no coincidence that the path of a healer involves just that.''
